This contract opportunity offers a chance to guide learners with visual impairments toward greater independence and confidence as they navigate their educational environments and communities. The position is part-time, with services needed 2-3 days each month (for a total of approximately 20-25 hours per week), working in person across multiple schools in the area during the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility or a related field
- National certification through ACVREP
- K12 teaching certification
- Expertise in supporting visually impaired or blind students, including those with low vision
- Experience designing and delivering proactive safety and independence plans
- Proficiency in direct and consultative O&M services for all skill levels (from beginners to advanced)
- Skilled in teaching pre-cane skills, cane skills, community travel, route planning, and daily living skills
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation abilities
- Ability to travel onsite to various schools within the district
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group O&M instruction to students, focusing on safe, independent travel within school and community settings
- Develop and implement instructional plans in collaboration with educational staff and families
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide consultative guidance to fellow educators
- Support students’ mastery of skills such as route travel, use of mobility aids, and orientation strategies
- Participate in staff development and training sessions to enhance best practices in serving visually impaired learners
