As a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a key role in fostering greater independence and mobility skills among individuals with visual impairments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification.
  • Experience working with children or youth in a school or educational setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of strategies and best practices in O&M instruction.
  • Collaborative spirit and effective communication abilities within educational teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying student needs and caseload assignments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments in orientation and mobility techniques, focusing on individualized educational needs.
  • Develop and implement O&M goals based on comprehensive assessments and student IEPs.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure continuity and effectiveness of services.
  • Monitor and document student progress, maintaining detailed records in compliance with school and district requirements.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and provide insightful recommendations on student service delivery.
  • Adapt and modify instructional materials as needed, drawing from evidence-based practices.
