Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Washington, Pennsylvania

In this role, you will deliver essential makeup Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services for a student throughout the full school year. Sessions are scheduled for two 40-minute periods per week, with flexibility for experienced candidates. Your expertise will help the student build foundational spatial and positional concepts to navigate their home environment safely and independently.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Current endorsement or certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS), required
• Experience providing O&M instruction and support to students with complex needs
• Familiarity with state standards and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) for O&M
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly with families and school teams
• Ability to adapt strategies and goals in a one-on-one, home-based setting
• A collaborative, compassionate approach and a dedication to helping students achieve individual goals

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct two weekly 40-minute O&M make-up sessions in the student’s home
• Guide the student in applying spatial and positional concepts (left/right, near/far, in/out, next to) while navigating familiar indoor environments
• Track and document progress on individualized goals, including identifying environmental features and meeting ECC O&M standards
• Communicate student progress effectively with both family and school supports
