Make a meaningful difference by guiding students toward greater independence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This rewarding contract position, based near Easton, PA, offers the opportunity to support students with visual impairments in a school setting. You’ll be instrumental in fostering students' confidence and helping them navigate their environments safely.
This assignment begins 8/31/2026 and covers a leave, making it an excellent chance to bring your expertise to a supportive educational environment. Scheduled Monday through Friday, you’ll work 35 hours per week (7.5 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch).
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS/COMS) credentials
- Experience working with school-aged children preferred
- Familiarity with the latest assistive technology and mobility aids
- Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and implement tailored instructional programs
- Current clearances as required by state and district guidelines
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ orientation and mobility needs and abilities
- Develop and deliver individualized instruction for safe and effective travel in various settings
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and other support staff to create comprehensive plans
- Monitor and document student progress toward achieving mobility goals
- Educate school staff and families on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
- Ensure compliance with IEPs and special education requirements
