Orientation and Mobility Specialist in Whitehall, PA

Make a meaningful impact supporting students as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist on a contract assignment for the upcoming school year. This full-time opportunity begins August 31, 2026, and involves providing essential O&M services throughout the duration of a colleague's leave. You’ll shape safe independence and navigation skills for students who are blind or visually impaired, working closely with educational teams to maximize access and confidence.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Orientation and Mobility Specialist certification (OMS or COMS)
• Experience working with K-12 students in educational settings preferred
• Strong understanding of visual impairments and individualized education program (IEP) processes
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills
• Ability to develop, implement, and adjust O&M instructional plans

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to students based on their unique needs and goals
• Assess new students and update progress reports according to IEP timelines
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to encourage holistic support
• Participate in IEP meetings, providing recommendations and expertise for student plans
• Maintain clear, timely records of sessions, progress, and parent/teacher communications
• Provide training for staff and family members on O&M strategies and safe travel practices as appropriate
