Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility.
• Certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) through ACVREP.
• Eligibility to hold a valid state driver’s license with the flexibility to travel locally.
• Prior experience evaluating, teaching, and supporting students with visual impairments in educational settings is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Ability to develop and implement tailored instructional plans based on student needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participate in referral and assessment processes for visually impaired students.
• Conduct comprehensive evaluations covering concept development, environmental orientation, safe travel techniques, device usage, sensory skills, and self-advocacy.
• Develop and track individualized IEP/IFSP O&M goals and interventions.
• Recommend modifications or specialized services related to visual impairments.
• Deliver direct instruction and consultation for students, staff, peers, and families.
• Order, distribute, and maintain necessary adaptive devices, such as canes and low-vision aids.
• Utilize ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and document outcomes.
• Lead in-service training for staff, families, and community members.
• Advise on the design and safety of school environments.
• Maintain all required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
