Step into a fulfilling role supporting student success as a school-based occupational therapist for the upcoming academic year. This part-time contract opportunity offers the chance to work closely with middle school students, serving two dedicated schools in the Washington, DC metro area (approximately 45 minutes south of the city). The position is structured for 20 flexible hours each week—an excellent arrangement for those balancing clinical roles or seeking greater flexibility with their schedule.
You’ll focus on a diverse caseload of 25 students, providing direct therapy services for 10 and consultative support for 15. While the role is primarily centered at two middle schools, there may be occasional support at a nearby elementary campus as the year progresses. Daily responsibilities include direct intervention, collaborative consultation with educators and families, and periodic evaluations as needed throughout the school year.
Qualifications:
- Valid and active Occupational Therapy license issued by the state of Virginia
- Experience in school-based or pediatric occupational therapy
- Strong communication skills; capability to collaborate with fellow professionals and families
- Ability to independently manage caseloads and documentation
- Willingness to complete required background and health screenings, including the VA Dept. of Social Services check and TB test
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative OT services tailored to student IEPs
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Develop effective intervention plans and track student progress
- Engage with staff, administration, and families to create supportive learning environments
This assignment is confirmed for the full 2026-2027 school year, beginning in early August and ending in late May. Interviews will be conducted with district leadership and the lead OT, ensuring strong clinical support.
