Special Education Para Professional in Albany, NY

Support an inclusive educational environment as an ASL paraprofessional, working one-on-one with an elementary student for the entire academic year. This contract opportunity offers the chance to make a real difference in a student’s daily school experience, facilitating communication and supporting positive classroom behavior. With 30 hours per week, you will collaborate closely with teachers and staff to ensure student engagement and growth.

Qualifications and Experience Desired:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with relevant certification or documented experience
• Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter or paraprofessional in a school setting
• Strong behavior management skills, with a proven ability to implement effective strategies
• Ability to adapt support to meet an individual student’s needs in an elementary classroom
• Commitment to fostering a welcoming, accessible learning environment

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct ASL interpretation and support for an elementary student
• Facilitate communication between the student, classmates, and staff
• Assist with academic engagement, social interactions, and classroom activities
• Employ positive behavior management strategies to encourage student success
• Adapt support methods as needed based on student progress and teacher feedback
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
