Step into a dynamic educational environment supporting K-12 students as an Instructional Assistant. This contract opportunity offers hands-on classroom involvement within specialized programs and settings, focusing on students with disabilities.
You’ll contribute 35 hours per week, collaborating primarily in elementary, middle, or high school classrooms. Your experience with children who have disabilities equips you to play a vital role in various special education programs, including social/emotional learning environments, self-contained settings, and functional skill development courses. Daily tasks range from academic support to assisting with physical and behavioral needs.
Key Qualifications:
- Previous work with students who have disabilities required
- Valid Missouri sub certification or passing scores on the required ParaPro/Paraprofessional assessments
- Physically able to assist with classroom mobility, physical management, or elopement
- Experience in de-escalation and behavior support
- Bonus: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification
- For designated settings, comfort or experience with lifting, toileting, feeding, or medical care
- Flexibility to move between classrooms/settings and support small group or 1:1 learning
- For high school roles, confidence supporting students with life skills, practical academics, and vocational tasks
Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers and SPED teams in classroom management, academic, and behavioral support
- Help foster a positive, inclusive environment conducive to social/emotional and academic growth
- Support daily routines, transitions, and classroom engagement
- May involve occasional support with toileting, mobility, feeding, and health needs
- Encourage communication, independence, and participation among students
- Accompany students throughout the school building and community settings as needed
