Make a meaningful impact every day by supporting students across K-12 settings as an Instructional Assistant, specializing in special education environments. This contract role offers the opportunity to assist students in a variety of educational settings—from elementary to high school—helping to foster inclusion, learning, and independence for children with unique needs.

Key Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with children with disabilities, ideally within school environments.
  • Must have either a substitute certificate or have passed a paraprofessional/para praxis exam as required for Missouri Instructional Assistants.
  • 60 college credit hours or completion of approved assessment (Pearson, ETS, or ParaPro) or 20HR Substitute Certificate Course.
  • De-escalation skills and experience managing challenging behaviors, including aggression and elopement.
  • Physical ability to provide mobility assistance, support physical management, or assist in restraining when necessary.
  • Comfort with small group or 1:1 support, assisting with activities of daily living (including toileting, lifting, feeding, and mobility).
  • Any background in medical assistance or applied behavioral analysis (RBT certification) is a bonus.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work 35 hours per week in K-12 settings, primarily elementary level within social-emotional learning, functional skills, or special education programs.
  • Support classroom routines, assist with implementation of IEPs, and provide direct support for student success and safety.
  • Help create an inclusive, respectful learning environment while offering academic, behavioral, and life skills support.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and specialists to deliver holistic support.
  • Facilitate mobility around the classroom/building and help integrate students into general education activities as appropriate (such as Health, PE, FACS).
  • Contribute to life skills training, task-based projects, and functional academic instruction.
