Key Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school setting as a paraprofessional or educational assistant
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and staff
- Understanding of classroom management and support strategies
- Patient, empathetic, and responsive to diverse student needs
- High school diploma or equivalent required; further certifications in sign language interpreting or paraprofessional education preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating classroom communication and participation
- Support instructional activities, adapting materials and methods to accommodate individual learning styles or needs
- Foster positive student engagement by encouraging independence and skill development
- Assist with classroom organization, behavior management, and small group instruction as directed by the lead teacher
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate records in accordance with district policies
- Engage in ongoing training to refine educational support and interpreting abilities
