Para Professional in Canandaigua, NY

Key Qualifications:

• Experience working in a school setting as a paraprofessional or educational assistant
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and staff
• Understanding of classroom management and support strategies
• Patient, empathetic, and responsive to diverse student needs
• High school diploma or equivalent required; further certifications in sign language interpreting or paraprofessional education preferred

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide interpretation services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating classroom communication and participation
• Support instructional activities, adapting materials and methods to accommodate individual learning styles or needs
• Foster positive student engagement by encouraging independence and skill development
• Assist with classroom organization, behavior management, and small group instruction as directed by the lead teacher
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate records in accordance with district policies
• Engage in ongoing training to refine educational support and interpreting abilities
