Step into a rewarding contract role as a paraprofessional working 1:1 with an elementary student for the upcoming school year. This opportunity is ideal for those skilled in – or eager to continue learning – American Sign Language (ASL). You’ll play a crucial role in supporting a young learner who recently completed kindergarten and now has an IEP that includes sign language support.

This assignment runs from early September through early June, based in a welcoming elementary setting. You’ll be part of a collaborative team and enjoy meaningful daily interactions that make a difference in a child’s education.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language; fluent signers or those with foundational ASL skills and motivation to advance are welcome.
• Experience as a school paraprofessional or in a similar educational support position.
• Comfort and commitment to a consistent commute within a large school district.
• Patience, adaptability, and genuine enthusiasm for working with elementary students.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an IEP-focused team.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 paraprofessional support to an elementary student, facilitating classroom engagement and communication through ASL.
• Collaborate closely with the special education team, classroom teacher, and related service providers.
• Assist with academic, social, and daily learning activities as outlined in the student’s IEP.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and language-rich environment tailored to the child’s needs.
• Model effective communication techniques and help expand the student’s use of ASL.
