Step into a meaningful role supporting students as an American Sign Language Paraprofessional within a vibrant school environment near Converse, TX. This contract opportunity is ideal for caring, dedicated individuals passionate about empowering students with hearing loss in their educational journey. You will work on site, engaging directly with students and educational teams from ASAP through late May 2027.
You’ll play a vital role providing assistance in the classroom, fostering understanding, and ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive. The assignment spans one school location, with the possibility of serving either Mission Academy or Highlands High School—each site just 13 minutes apart and hosting distinct caseloads of either 10 or 30 students.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience as a school/paraprofessional, specifically with ASL or supporting students with hearing loss
- One of the following:
- Associate’s degree or higher
- At least 48 college semester hours (recognized by Texas Education Agency or regional agency) and completed paraeducator course via Stedi.org (70%+ passing score)
- Pediatric or school-based experience with children with hearing loss
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to complete background check and fingerprinting as part of credentialing
Key Responsibilities
- Provide classroom and communication support for students
- Assist educators in daily lesson implementation
- Facilitate ASL communication and bridge gaps between students and staff
- Help maintain an inclusive, positive learning atmosphere
- Track student progress and collaborate with the educational team
