Special Education Para Professional in Elizabeth, NJ

Step into a vital support role by helping students reach their full potential each day. This contract opportunity is available for three full-time paraprofessionals in a school setting near Elizabeth, NJ. The assignment begins as soon as possible and runs through June 22, 2027, with the possibility to extend through the Extended School Year (July–August 2027). You’ll work 30 hours per week, following a Monday–Friday, 8:25am–2:25pm schedule.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Previous experience working as a paraprofessional in a school environment is highly valued
• Familiarity with implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior or safety plans
• Skilled in providing instructional support and working under teacher direction
• Understanding of de-escalation and emotional regulation strategies
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries
• Comfortable collecting academic and behavioral data
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with teaching and clinical staff

Key Responsibilities:

• Remain with the assigned student throughout the entire school day, including arrival, transitions, academic periods, lunch, recess, and field trips
• Provide instructional support and foster student independence, using prompts, organization tools, and accommodations as directed
• Implement IEP goals, behavior, and safety plans, as well as reinforcement or break systems
• Support emotional regulation and utilize established de-escalation practices
• Monitor safety, peer interactions, and behavior, and proactively report observations to appropriate staff
• Request additional support if student needs exceed routine one-to-one assistance
• Ensure professional confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times
