Classroom Assistant | Elk River, Minnesota

Step into a dynamic role supporting students across a large, diverse district as a Floating Substitute Paraprofessional. This flexible contract position offers guaranteed, consistent hours each week school is in session, perfect for those committed to making a meaningful difference while gaining broad experience in special education settings.

You’ll be part of one of six dedicated crews, each assigned to a specific portion of the district (including Champlin, Coon Rapids, Blaine, Anoka, Andover, or Rivertrail Learning Center). Float Paraprofessionals provide coverage wherever needed, assisting classrooms or individual students, particularly those with behavioral needs or BIPs. Adaptability is key—each day could look different, and your proactive, positive approach will ensure students have excellent support.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Must be “Highly Qualified” by one of the following:
  • Passed the Minnesota Board Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Exam (Para Educator Exam)
  • At least 60 documented college credits (transcripts required)
• Resume and highly qualified documentation required for application
• Previous experience in a school environment, preferably supporting students with behavioral needs
• Comfortable assisting with toileting and managing classroom behaviors
• Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel within district boundaries

Responsibilities:

• Float among schools within assigned crew to fill in for daily call outs
• Support teachers and SPED students with academic and behavioral interventions
• Provide 1:1 and group assistance as needed
• Communicate promptly with supervisors for shift assignments
• Maintain accurate records and confidentiality
