Step into a rewarding summer contract opportunity supporting students with autism spectrum disorder in the Elmira, NY area. Work one-on-one as a Teacher Aide or Teaching Assistant, providing guidance and encouragement throughout the summer school session. Positions are available at Eastern Host sites from July 6 to August 14, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., averaging 27.5–30 hours per week.
Key Qualifications:
- Active New York State License/Certificate for Teacher Assistants (Aides may be required to certify, but significant 1:1 experience is highly valued)
- TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) certification required
- Experience working directly with students diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder)
- Preference for male teaching assistants based on individual student support strategies
- Previous experience in a special education or behavioral support setting is a plus
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver dedicated, one-on-one support to assigned students in a summer school environment
- Implement individualized education and behavioral plans
- Collaborate with lead teachers, support staff, and related service providers
- Assist with classroom activities, academic assignments, and transitions throughout the day
- Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques as needed
- Create a safe, nurturing environment to encourage student growth and independence
