Two Bus Aides are needed to support students for the remainder of the 25/26 academic year, with the opportunity to continue into the following school year. This contract role offers a unique way to make a difference in the daily lives of students, particularly those with special needs, by providing assistance and a caring presence during their transportation to and from school.
You’ll work approximately 15 hours per week—90 minutes in the morning and again in the afternoon. Typical hours are between 6:30 am–8:30 am and 2:30 pm–4:30 pm, though start and end times may vary slightly by site. Your day begins by meeting at the school in the morning, accompanying the driver to pick up the student at home, and returning to the school. In the afternoon, you’ll ride along as students are returned home, ensuring safety, comfort, and a positive experience.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Experience as a Paraprofessional or Certified Nursing Assistant
- Previous work supporting children with special needs, particularly in a 1:1 or 2:1 capacity
- Familiarity with bus transportation for students and a willingness to ride along throughout the route
- Effective verbal de-escalation skills
- Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to changing needs and schedules
- Collaborative and compassionate approach
Key Responsibilities:
- Ride on the school bus or vehicle to supervise and support assigned students
- Ensure students’ safety, comfort, and well-being throughout travel
- Utilize positive behavioral supports and verbal de-escalation techniques as needed
- Collaborate with drivers and school staff to communicate student needs and support success
- Provide a calm, reassuring presence during each route
