Bring your passion for supporting students and your expertise in sign language to make a difference in education. This contract opportunity seeks two dedicated professionals to provide American Sign Language (ASL) support for middle school students within general education classrooms. Working Monday through Friday, from approximately 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, you’ll play an integral part in ensuring access to learning and communication for students in a welcoming school environment.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience as a paraprofessional or sign language interpreter, ideally in a school or youth setting
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language, with a certification or documented credential to demonstrate skill
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for inclusive education
  • Professionalism and strong communication skills
  • Collaborative approach to working with educators and students
  • Commitment to supporting middle school students’ participation and success

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing real-time ASL interpretation during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Assisting students in accessing curriculum, classroom discussions, and peer interactions
  • Collaborating closely with classroom teachers to ensure support aligns with learning goals
  • Fostering a positive, accessible, and inclusive environment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Monitoring student progress and adapting your approach as needed for optimal engagement
  • Serving as a resource and advocate for accessibility within the classroom community
