Classroom Assistant | Horseheads, New York

This contract role offers opportunities to assist children and teens with a variety of needs, helping them thrive and achieve success in their educational journey. Multiple positions are available at various school locations in the surrounding area.

Ideal candidates possess the following qualifications and experience:

• Certification as a New York State Teacher’s Assistant (for Assistant roles)
• CNA, TA, or relevant classroom experience, especially with students who have medical or behavioral needs
• Preschools or school/behavioral support background (for Aide roles)
• Experience or interest in working with students who are wheelchair-bound or require medical assistance
• Comfortable assisting and supporting students with autism and multiple disabilities
• Competent in providing academic and daily living support for nonverbal students
• Strong communication skills, flexibility, and a team-oriented approach

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing one-on-one or classroom-wide support, including academic assistance and daily care
• Assisting students with medical needs, mobility, and personal hygiene as necessary
• Supporting students in developing life skills, communication, and independence
• Implementing behavior support strategies as directed by special education staff
• Maintaining a safe, encouraging, and inclusive classroom environment
• Participating in team meetings and required professional development (including TCI Training provided)
