This contract position near Independence, MO offers paraprofessionals the opportunity to work across a variety of unique special education settings within K-12 schools. You’ll primarily assist elementary students but have the chance to work with older age groups. Your compassion, experience, and adaptability will have a direct impact on students’ success.
Key Qualifications:
- Experience engaging with children with disabilities in educational settings
- Background in de-escalation techniques, behavioral management, and conflict resolution; comfort with physical management or elopement support as needed
- Physically able to assist students with mobility, lifting, toileting, and feeding
- Medical or health-related background or comfort supporting students’ daily living needs is valued
- Experience in small group and 1:1 instructional support environments
- Bonus if you hold RBT certification
Required Credentials:
- Sub certificate, ParaPro/Paraprofessional Assessment, or completion of the 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course (per Missouri requirements)
- A minimum of 60 college credit hours, or acceptable paraprofessional assessments as outlined
Role Highlights:
- Provide instructional assistance in self-contained social/emotional learning programs (K-5)
- Hands-on support for diverse special education needs (K-8 and 9-12), including implementation of functional academic, life, and work skills
- Assist students in general education classes, encourage participation, and help facilitate transitions throughout the school day
- Foster a safe, engaging, and nurturing atmosphere in partnership with teachers and related staff
