Step into a rewarding contract role supporting K-12 students as a Paraprofessional near Kansas City, MO. Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with disabilities, preferably in a school or special education setting
  • Valid Missouri substitute certificate or completion of the ParaPraxis exam (see eligibility routes below)
  • Background or comfort with medical care, toileting, lifting, feeding, and student mobility
  • Familiarity with de-escalation techniques, behavioral support, and managing aggressive behaviors
  • Ability to remain mobile throughout the day, actively assisting students in classrooms and throughout the school
  • Bonus if you hold an RBT credential

Responsibilities:

  • Support special education teachers as an Instructional Assistant in K-12 classrooms, mainly elementary
  • Engage students in academic work, daily living tasks, and social-emotional learning, often in 1:1 or small group settings
  • Provide hands-on assistance in self-contained settings (K-5) and functional skills programs (grades 9-12)
  • Implement behavior management strategies and assist with occasional physical management or elopement
  • Help students acquire work and foundational academic skills, including cooking, task boxes, and in-school activities
  • Assist with personal care routines as needed

To qualify, you must have one of the following: 60 college credit hours, or a passing score on a relevant ParaPro or Paraprofessional Assessment, or completion of a Missouri substitute certificate course.
