Key qualifications include:
- A minimum of two years of college credits from an accredited institution, or an associate degree (or higher), or a passing score on an approved academic assessment (such as ParaPro, ParaPathways, or The Master Teacher), or fulfillment of the MDE-approved competency grid
- Valid PCA certificate (or willingness to obtain—certificate is free and takes less than one hour)
- At least one year of experience working professionally with school-aged children
- Preferably, two or more years of school-based paraprofessional experience
- Ability to work on-site (no virtual/remote options)
- Enthusiasm for flexible per diem assignments and supporting multiple classrooms as needed
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as a dedicated substitute paraprofessional throughout the school year, covering contractor absences
- Providing academic and behavioral support to students under the guidance of lead teachers
- Assisting in the daily management of classroom routines and adapting to the needs of diverse learners
- Engaging with students individually and in small groups to foster a positive learning environment
- Maintaining clear, respectful communication with staff and students
