Classroom Assistant | Lees Summit, Missouri

Seeking skilled paraprofessionals interested in a rewarding contract opportunity supporting K-12 students across North Kansas City. This role opens in late August and runs throughout the academic year, with flexibility to work in a variety of settings – you may work between multiple sites among the district’s 22 elementary, 6 middle, and 5 high schools, supporting both general and special education classrooms.

Ideal candidates are comfortable assisting with toileting, changing, and behavioral challenges, and bring a collaborative approach to working with teachers, aides, therapists, and other support professionals. Whether one-on-one or general classroom support, you’ll play a vital role in implementing behavior intervention plans and ensuring a respectful, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Current valid Substitute Certificate listed on the DESE website or completion of ParaPro Exam and verified transcripts (must be active before district interview)
• Ability to float among school sites as needed throughout the year
• Experience supporting students with diverse behavioral and physical needs
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Previous experience in a school setting and comfort with SPED classrooms
• Adaptability and openness to K-12 placements; preference for certain grade levels may be considered

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provide direct classroom or individualized support to students
• Assist in implementing instructional and behavioral strategies as directed
• Support students with personal care, hygiene, and mobility needs as required
• Foster a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment
• Maintain professionalism and ethical standards at all times

Schedules vary by school: Middle (7:00am–2:30pm), High (7:30am–3:00pm), Elementary (8:30am–4:00pm or 9:00am–4:30pm), with opportunities for additional positions.
