Classroom Assistant | Shelbyville, Indiana

Make a difference in students' lives as a dedicated paraprofessional fluent in American Sign Language. This full-time contract opportunity runs throughout the entire school year and is situated near Shelbyville, IN, working within an inclusive, student-focused educational environment. You will provide essential support to students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, helping to foster communication and access to learning.

What we're looking for:

• Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Prior experience as a paraprofessional in a school setting preferred
• Strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teaching staff, therapists, and other support professionals
• Flexibility, patience, and a positive, proactive approach to challenges
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional relevant coursework or certifications are a plus

Key responsibilities:

• Aid students in classroom activities by interpreting instructions and conversations between staff and students using ASL
• Facilitate clear communication to ensure comprehension and participation in all school activities
• Assist teachers with adapting instructional materials and delivering lessons to meet students’ unique needs
• Provide one-on-one or small group support, encouraging confidence and independence
• Help maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment
• Contribute to progress monitoring and communicate with the educational team and families as needed
