Instructional Assistant - Smithfield, VA

Make an impact every day by providing essential support to elementary school students as a 1:1 paraprofessional. In this fulfilling contract opportunity, you’ll be working closely with two students, helping them navigate their school days and fostering an environment where they can thrive. You’ll collaborate with educators and help guide students to stay engaged, focused, and comfortable throughout the school day.

Key Qualifications:

• Recent experience in behavior management, particularly within an educational setting.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent educational background is highly valued.
• Previous work supporting students with toileting and diapering duties is important.
• Candidates must provide at least one professional reference from a manager, dated within the past 2-3 years.
• Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Offer 1:1 assistance to elementary students during the school day (9:25 AM to 3:50 PM).
• Provide toileting, diapering, and personal support with dignity and care.
• Consistently redirect students as needed, ensuring they remain on task and engaged in classroom activities without distraction.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and nurturing classroom atmosphere.
• Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff to best support each child’s learning and development.
