Para Professional in Troy, NY

Bring your passion for supporting young learners to a meaningful role assisting an elementary student with a hearing impairment in a contract position available for the full school year. You’ll work 30 hours per week with a welcoming school community, providing both educational support and sign language interpretation to a student in a classroom setting.

Ideal candidates will have strong behavior management capabilities and solid experience with American Sign Language. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the academic and social growth of this student, fostering an inclusive and successful learning environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language with prior experience as a paraprofessional or sign language interpreter
• Demonstrated ability to support students in elementary grades
• Experience implementing positive behavior management plans
• Strong communication skills and an approachable demeanor
• Previous work in school or educational settings preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individual support and ASL interpretation during classroom instruction and activities
• Assist with academic tasks and facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers
• Foster a supportive and positive learning environment
• Document progress and communicate regularly with instructional staff
• Contribute to behavior management strategies tailored to the student's needs
• Uphold school policies and promote a safe classroom environment
