Step into a hands-on support role making a real difference in students’ daily routines as a Bus Aide for the 2026-27 school year. Three openings are now available for this contract position, ideal for paraprofessionals or Certified Nursing Assistants eager to positively impact students with special needs. You’ll be based near Whittier, CA, assisting students one-on-one or two-on-one as they travel to and from school each day.
Your weekly commitment will range from 10 to 15 hours, split between morning and afternoon hours to match transportation needs. Expect to help students during the early morning rush (typically 6:30–8:30 am) and afternoon return (about 2:30–4:30 pm). The position runs ASAP through May 2027, with a high likelihood of renewal for the following school year, including participation in Extended School Year (ESY) sessions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous paraprofessional experience or Certified Nursing Assistant certification
- Experience working with special needs children, preferably with exposure to bus transport settings
- Strong verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention skills
- Patient, reliable, and able to handle flexible, split shifts
- Comfortable collaborating with drivers, educators, and families
- Completion of thorough onboarding as required
Key Responsibilities
- Ride in the school vehicle, providing support for students during pickup, transit, and drop-off
- Ensure student safety, well-being, and positive behavior on the bus
- Communicate calmly and effectively in challenging situations
- Report callouts and follow school/agency notification protocols
- Participate in a brief (15-minute) interview process
- Adhere to all onboarding and compliance requirements
