Make a real difference in a student’s life as a Deaf/Blind Intervener in a school-based contract position near Wilmington, NC. This rewarding opportunity places you in a pivotal role, providing essential 1:1 support to a 4th grade student throughout the academic year (8/21/26-6/4/27). You’ll help ensure meaningful access to communication, support participation in classroom activities, and assist the student from arrival to dismissal each day.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience as a paraprofessional, especially in educational settings supporting students with disabilities
- Background in working with children who are Deaf, Blind, or Deafblind is highly desirable
- Strong commitment to supporting access to communication and learning for students with sensory impairments
- Ability to foster trust, encourage engagement, and adapt to the unique needs of an individual student
- Excellent collaborative skills to work with teachers, specialists, and families
- Compassion, patience, and dedication to providing empowering support
Main Responsibilities:
- Offer consistent, 1:1 intervention to a 4th grade student, facilitating communication and sensory access
- Assist the student in fully participating in classroom lessons, activities, and peer interactions
- Implement teacher and specialist recommendations to support the student’s learning and personal development
- Advocate for and reinforce independence whenever possible
- Ensure safety, comfort, and inclusion for the student throughout the school day
- Document daily activities and progress, sharing information as needed with the instructional team
