Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a unique student’s growth and development in a school-based setting near Bronx, NY. This position focuses on delivering skilled Physical Therapy to a homeschooled 11-year-old female student who is navigating coradical visual and hearing impairments and has a low IQ. Service sessions are provided at the district building, offering an individualized and supportive environment for both you and the student.
Key Qualifications:
- Active licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of New York
- Experience working with children in educational or pediatric settings, preferably with special needs
- Comfort and adaptability when working with students who have significant sensory impairments and cognitive challenges
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
- Patience, empathy, and creativity in adapting therapy strategies to meet individual needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct two 30-minute Physical Therapy sessions per week, tailored to the student’s abilities and goals
- Assess needs and develop a plan of care focused on improving mobility, functional skills, and overall independence
- Incorporate adaptive tools and techniques that are responsive to visual and hearing impairments
- Maintain clear documentation and track progress toward therapy objectives
- Communicate regularly with involved parties to ensure the highest quality of service delivery
