This contract opportunity places you at the heart of a 7th Grade Center, providing essential assistance in an Autistic support classroom serving students in grades 7 and 8. You'll work closely with students who may have behavioral challenges, including the potential for aggression or increased self-care needs, under the guidance of a committed special education team.
Your compassion, composure, and dedication will make a difference every day as you help students navigate their academic and personal growth. The district is looking for a professional who can start quickly for this high-priority backfill role.
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience as a Paraprofessional or Personal Care Assistant, ideally in a school setting
- Confidence supporting students with disabilities, especially those who may exhibit physically aggressive behaviors
- Familiarity with strategies for managing behaviors and promoting positive interactions
- Ability to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive classroom environment
- Team player mindset, collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other staff
- Patience, empathy, and keen observational skills
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, 7:45am – 3pm, from late August through early June
Key responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with autism spectrum disorders
- Implement behavioral and academic strategies as directed by the teaching team
- Assist with self-care tasks for students as needed
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom experience
- Document interactions, incidents, and progress as required
- Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviors
