Step into a deeply rewarding contract role supporting a student with complex medical needs throughout both summer and school-year calendars. This position centers around providing dedicated nursing care to a 20-year-old non-verbal male student who uses a wheelchair and requires significant medical oversight, including frequent seizure management. The ideal candidate will accompany the student on the bus to and from school, ensuring seamless care during transportation and throughout the day. If you are local to the Saco area and unable to ride the bus, you are still welcome to apply for school-hours nursing services.
What We’re Looking For:
- Active RN license in the state.
- Experience in school-based or pediatric nursing settings strongly preferred.
- Comfort and proficiency in managing seizure disorders.
- Ability to perform physical lifting safely for toileting and mobility assistance.
- Strong communication skills with interdisciplinary teams and the ability to adapt to non-verbal communication cues.
- Compassionate, patient, and attentive approach to individualized care.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one nursing services for the student during transportation (if applicable) and throughout the school day.
- Monitor, assess, and respond promptly to changing medical needs, including seizure observation and intervention.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including toileting, feeding, and positioning.
- Adhere to student care plans and promptly document any incidents or changes.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family to optimize the student's access to education and well-being.
Position Structure:
- Year-round schedule with a July 6th start date.
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday (early releases: Fridays in summer, Wednesdays during school year).
If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference in a student’s life while growing your expertise in school nursing, we want to hear from you. Apply now to embark on this impactful journey!
