Position Summary

The School Nurse will provide professional nursing care and health services to students, with an emphasis on supporting students with chronic illnesses and special healthcare needs. This position involves collaboration with families, school staff, and healthcare providers to ensure individualized care and promote a safe and healthy learning environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer medication, treatments, and emergency care as needed

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for students with chronic conditions and special needs

  • Conduct health screenings, assessments, and follow-up care

  • Collaborate with educators, families, and healthcare professionals to support student health and academic success

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with district and state guidelines

  • Provide health education and promote wellness initiatives within schools

  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings to support health accommodations

  • Respond promptly to health emergencies and provide first aid and CPR


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

  • Experience working as a school nurse, especially with students with special needs and chronic health conditions

  • Knowledge of care protocols for asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, and other health concerns common in school-age children

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams


Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in school nursing (e.g., NCSN) or willingness to obtain

  • Experience working within IEP/504 processes and special education settings

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification


Compensation & Benefits
