A Registered Nurse with a valid Massachusetts license is needed for a unique school-based contract position supporting a 9-year-old student with diabetes. This role involves providing 1:1 nursing care throughout the student’s day, ensuring safety and health management from home to school and back.
Location details include the student residing in either Waltham or Watertown, MA, with the school day based in Lexington, MA. The nurse will start at the student’s home, accompany them on the bus to school, stay with the student during school hours, and return with them on the bus in the afternoon. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 3:40 PM, though daily transportation times may vary.
Key qualifications and experience:
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required (LPNs and CNAs will not be considered)
- Proven experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing, particularly diabetes care
- Ability to provide individualized 1:1 care with attention to detail and safety
- Strong communication skills and comfort with varied travel between residences and school
- Dependability to maintain consistent support Monday through Friday
Responsibilities include:
- Administering diabetes care and monitoring while traveling with and staying alongside the student
- Collaborating with school staff and family to ensure a smooth, safe daily routine
- Documenting health information according to regulatory and school requirements
- Responding promptly to any health-related needs or emergencies during assigned hours
