Registered Nurse School Setting in Des Plaines, IL

A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse to join a vibrant educational setting, covering a maternity leave from October 26, 2026, through January 22, 2027. The position is full-time with traditional school hours from 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM, serving high school students in a supportive environment. The assignment is for 12 weeks, with the possibility of extension.

Key Qualifications:

• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Previous experience working in a school setting is required.
• Must be able to work full-time, adhering to the assigned school hours.
• Ability to provide documentation of certification/licensure and submit a current resume.
• LPNs will not be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct professional nursing services, including first aid, illness evaluation, and emergency response for students and staff in accordance with state/local mandates and school policy.
• Administer medications in compliance with all documentation requirements, securing medications as specified.
• Collaborate with Certified School Nurse on wellness programs, district health projects, and updating health plans for allergies, asthma, or seizures.
• Support the Certified School Nurse and health aide in maintaining the school health office and associated records.
• Regularly inspect and monitor building AEDs, reporting issues to the health services secretary for timely maintenance.
• Keep comprehensive, accurate medical records for compliance with state health mandates, including immunizations and medical conditions.
• Act as a mandated reporter, making assessments and referrals for suspected abuse or neglect as appropriate.
