Step into a vital role supporting high school students as a School Nurse within a dynamic and caring educational environment. This contract opportunity is essential during a maternity leave period, spanning 12 weeks from October 26, 2026, through January 22, 2027, with potential to extend. The assignment runs full-time during standard school hours, 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM, ensuring work-life balance.
Your expertise will ensure the provision of direct nursing services—from first aid and emergency care to ongoing wellness initiatives—helping staff and students thrive. You'll partner closely with a Certified School Nurse, support wellness programs, participate in key health initiatives, and uphold essential documentation and compliance responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois (required; LPNs are not eligible).
- Prior experience working in a school nursing setting.
- Current certification/license; resume required with application.
- Strong assessment skills and a professional, compassionate approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver immediate and professional nursing care, first aid, illness, and emergency response.
- Administer and document medications accurately, ensuring compliance and secure storage.
- Support and assist Certified School Nurse with wellness programming and district health projects (including allergy, asthma, and seizure action plans).
- Oversee health office maintenance with the nursing team.
- Monitor AED equipment, reporting service needs.
- Maintain and archive confidential medical records; ensure compliance with immunizations, physical exams, and state medical mandates.
- Serve as a mandated reporter, making appropriate referrals for suspected abuse or neglect.
