A certified school nurse is needed for a 12-week maternity leave assignment supporting two school buildings. This full-time, contract opportunity begins December 14, 2026, and runs through March 15, 2027, with potential to extend. You’ll split your week between two campuses: Monday through Wednesday at a high school (7:00 am–2:30 pm), and Thursday–Friday at an elementary school (8:00 am–4:00 pm).
In this rewarding role, you’ll provide care for students in the health office, collaborate with educators, and participate in IEP meetings to support special needs students’ medical and educational needs. Your expertise will make a meaningful difference in the school community.
Qualifications:
- Must hold Illinois licensure as a Certified School Nurse with a valid PEL (Professional Educator License)
- Demonstrated experience in school nursing or similar setting (elementary or secondary)
- Proficient in attending and assisting with IEP meetings for students with special needs
- Able to work the designated school hours at both assigned buildings
- Strong communication skills and collaborative spirit
- Must submit proof of PEL certification/license and resume for consideration
- RN or LPN credentials alone are not sufficient (PEL required)
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing services to students in both high school and elementary school settings
- Administer first aid, manage chronic illnesses, dispense medication, and respond to medical emergencies
- Support IEP planning and participate in meetings for students requiring individualized health accommodations
- Maintain health records and ensure compliance with all school health policies
- Foster a proactive, supportive approach to student health and well-being
