Take on a rewarding contract assignment near Elizabeth, NJ, supporting a young learner as a dedicated Registered Nurse in the school environment. You’ll make a meaningful difference in the life of a 3-year-old student diagnosed with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), ensuring their health, safety, and well-being during school hours and transportation. This full-time, onsite position runs from September 3, 2026 to June 24, 2027, offering approximately 35 hours per week (8am-3pm).
What you'll bring:
- Active RN license with experience in school nursing
- Proven pediatric nursing background—must be comfortable supporting young children with complex medical needs
- Proficiency managing NG-tubes (not G-tubes), with up-to-date knowledge of tube care and feeds
- Physical ability to safely lift and transport a non-ambulatory child weighing approximately 24 lbs
- Experience working collaboratively with educators, therapists, and families
- Commitment to accompanying the student on daily bus rides for safe and seamless transitions to and from school
- Compassion, patience, and keen attention to detail in fast-paced school settings
- Clear communication and thorough documentation skills
Key responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one care and monitoring throughout the school day and during transportation
- Administer NG-tube feeds and medications as prescribed
- Support transfers, positioning, and mobility needs
- Respond to medical situations swiftly and appropriately
- Act as liaison between healthcare providers, school teams, and family, ensuring coordinated care
- Maintain up-to-date health records and daily reports
