Take your nursing expertise into a rewarding school-based environment, supporting a young learner in need of compassionate, specialized care. This contract opportunity is based in the vibrant community near Jersey City, NJ, and spans the 2026-2027 school year. You'll make a meaningful impact on a single, nonspeaking 3-year-old student with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD), providing a safe and nurturing environment throughout their school day.
Your day runs from 8:00am to 3:00pm on an onsite-only basis, with a commitment of around 35 hours per week. The role includes accompanying the student on the bus, ensuring their safety during transport, and managing care related to a nasogastric (NG) tube.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active RN license required and eligible for school-based assignment
- Proven pediatric nursing experience—experience with medically fragile children highly preferred
- Familiarity with NG-tube care (Student does not have a G-tube)
- Comfort with lifting and safely transporting a non-ambulatory child weighing approximately 24 lbs
- Commitment to maintaining a supportive, patient-centered approach in collaboration with teachers and school staff
Your Responsibilities:
- Deliver attentive, one-on-one nursing care for a 3-year-old student throughout their school day
- Manage NG-tube feedings and monitor for changes in the child's condition or comfort
- Accompany and support the student during bussing to and from school
- Respond calmly to any medical issues, emergencies, or adjustments in daily routines
- Maintain accurate documentation and collaborate effectively with the school team and parents
