A Registered Nurse (RN) with a Massachusetts license is needed to provide dedicated 1:1 care for a 9-year-old student with diabetes. The role is based in the school setting, requiring the nurse to start at the student’s home, accompany the student on the bus to school, provide care throughout the school day, and return on the bus to the student’s home. This unique assignment involves supporting the student both in transit and during school hours to ensure consistent, comprehensive diabetes management.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized diabetes care for a young student during the school day
  • Assist the student on the bus to and from home and school
  • Collaborate with school staff and family members to maintain health and safety
  • Monitor blood sugar levels, administer insulin as needed, and manage diabetes-related emergencies
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts—LPNs and CNAs will not be considered
  • Experience in pediatric nursing, particularly with diabetes care, is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and handle emergency medical situations calmly and professionally
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with the student’s family, school staff, and transportation personnel

Location and Schedule:

  • Primary school building is in Lexington, MA
  • Student residences are in Waltham and Watertown, MA
  • Monday through Friday work schedule, approximately 8:00 AM to 3:40 PM; times may vary based on transportation
