This contract opportunity centers on providing 1:1 care for a medically fragile high school student, ensuring their well-being and safety throughout the school day, including bus transport. You’ll work independently as the dedicated healthcare professional for the student, serving as their primary clinical advocate and support within the educational setting.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active RN or LPN/LVN license in Virginia (or compact state eligibility)
- Demonstrated experience with tracheostomy and ventilator care
- Strong background in providing direct care to medically fragile individuals, ideally in pediatrics or school settings
- Ability to work autonomously, with sound judgment and effective clinical decision-making
- Reliable and compassionate with excellent communication skills
- Comfortable with daily bus transportation, ensuring continuity of care to and from school
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver continuous, 1:1 nursing care for a high school student with complex medical needs
- Safely manage trach and vent equipment, monitoring and responding to the student’s needs promptly
- Accompany the student on the bus, maintaining vigilant care throughout transport
- Collaborate with school staff, healthcare providers, and family members to ensure coordinated services
- Maintain detailed documentation of care provided, interventions, and communications
- Respond to emergencies calmly and effectively, following established medical protocols
- Advocate for the student’s safety and participation in their educational experience
