Embark on a fulfilling contract opportunity supporting an individual student as a 1:1 Registered Nurse for the 2026/2027 academic year. Based near Norwich, CT, this role begins mid to late August with two to three initial sessions in the student's home. These sessions are designed to help you establish rapport and understand the student’s unique needs ahead of the school year, continuing through June 11th.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active RN license in the state
  • Prior experience in a school setting preferred
  • Competence in respiratory care, including suctioning
  • Knowledge of monitoring and responding to seizure activity
  • Ability to administer medications per care plan
  • Experience with custodial care, including changing and use of a Hoyer lift (or willingness to learn)
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and school support staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive 1:1 nursing support throughout the school day
  • Monitor and manage respiratory concerns, performing suctioning as needed
  • Stay vigilant for seizure activity and respond appropriately
  • Administer medications accurately according to protocols
  • Collaborate with paraprofessional staff for custodial care including lifting, changing, and transfers using a Hoyer lift
  • Foster a supportive, safe environment tailored to the student’s medical and educational needs
  • Participate in periodic meetings and communicate updates to the care team
