Step into a vital and rewarding nursing assignment supporting a vibrant educational community near Oxford, ME. This unique contract role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in the life of a 20-year-old student with complex medical needs. The position begins July 6th and is year-round, allowing you to build a lasting connection with your student and the school environment.

As the nurse in this role, you’ll support a non-verbal student who relies on a wheelchair and requires consistent medical oversight, including specialized seizure management and physical assistance with toileting. You’ll help ensure his safety and comfort during school hours, collaborating closely with educators and therapists.

Key skills and qualities:

  • Active RN license and a background in school nursing or pediatric/young adult care
  • Experience supporting individuals with significant medical needs, specifically seizure management
  • Comfort with physical lifting and transferring for toileting and positioning
  • Patience, adaptability, and strong communication skills, especially with non-verbal individuals and multidisciplinary teams

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive, one-on-one nursing care throughout the school day
  • Manage and respond to medical needs, particularly frequent seizures
  • Support physical care routines, including safe lifts and transfers
  • Monitor overall health and work collaboratively with school staff and healthcare providers
  • Provide accurate documentation on student care and incidents

Schedule highlights:

  • Summer hours: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM, with early release Fridays at 1:30 PM
  • School-year hours: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM, with early release Wednesdays
  • Option to ride the school bus to and from school with the student, or, if local, provide care exclusively during school hours
