Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a unique student in a dynamic school environment near South Amboy, NJ. Dedicated to providing exceptional nursing for a young child with complex medical needs, this position allows you to utilize your skills and compassion to make a profound difference every school day.
This onsite assignment runs from January 4, 2026, through June 24, 2027, with a consistent weekday schedule from 8am to 3pm, totaling approximately 35 hours per week. You'll work one-on-one with a 3-year-old student diagnosed with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD). The student is non-ambulatory and non-verbal, weighs about 24 lbs, and requires frequent lifting, transportation, and hands-on assistance using equipment such as a stander and gait-trainer. Proficiency and confidence managing an NG-tube are vital—note that a G-tube is NOT utilized. Transportation via bus is required as part of the daily routine.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Active RN license with experience in a school setting or relevant pediatric environment
- Demonstrated competency with medically fragile children, particularly non-ambulatory, non-verbal, and low-weight students
- Mastery in NG-tube care—prior NG-tube experience required
- Ability to safely lift, transport, and position pediatric patients
- Comfort with onsite-only settings and adapting to a school community
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Passion for supporting medically complex children in educational settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver daily hands-on nursing care throughout the school day
- Attend to the student’s feedings, medications, mobility, positioning, and all related medical needs
- Ride on school buses to ensure safe transport
- Collaborate closely with school staff, teachers, and allied health professionals
- Document and respond promptly to changes in the student’s status or needs
- Serve as a compassionate advocate for the student’s well-being
