1:1 1:1 Care School-Based Registered Nurse (RN) - Syracuse, New York

Step into an essential role providing individualized care for a first-grade student as a school nurse within an elementary setting. This rewarding contract position ensures continuity of care and support throughout the school year, with a start date to be determined and a projected end date of May 20, 2026. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.; if all responsibilities are completed, nurses may leave at 2:30 p.m. and still receive pay for the full day, and a duty-free lunch is included.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver attentive, skilled 1:1 nursing care to a non-verbal elementary student, including daily monitoring, management, and cleaning of a tracheostomy tube, as well as suctioning as needed.
• Assist with activities of daily living, including feeding, and provide academic support during instruction.
• Escort and supervise the student during mainstream elective classes outside the special education setting.
• Maintain accurate records of care, communication logs, and follow individualized health plans.
• Collaborate with educators and school support staff to foster a safe, inclusive environment accommodating the student’s medical and learning needs.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety, confidentiality, and all healthcare regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license, unrestricted.
• Previous experience working in pediatric, school, or special education settings is highly valued.
• Confidence managing tracheostomies and providing medically necessary suctioning.
• Comfort supporting students with disabilities, particularly non-verbal individuals.
• Strong communication, observation, and organizational skills.
