Registered Nurse School Setting - York, PA

A local school district requires an experienced School Nurse to provide one-on-one care and supervision during student transportation, beginning 10/20 for a 45-day placement. This role is tailored for an RN comfortable overseeing a student with type 1 diabetes who needs continuous blood sugar monitoring and support during transit to and from a specialized program in Lancaster.

Key Qualifications:

• Active RN license in Pennsylvania, in good standing
• Prior experience in school nursing, pediatric, or transport nursing environments
• Demonstrated ability to care for children with chronic health concerns (specifically, diabetes management)
• Strong communication skills to coordinate with school staff, administrators, and parents
• Empathetic, patient, and able to work independently
• Reliable and professional punctuality suited for split daily shifts

Responsibilities:

• Provide close supervision and nursing care for a student with type 1 diabetes during bus or van transportation to and from the educational program
• Monitor and respond to blood sugar levels, administering interventions as necessary according to the student’s medical plan
• Ensure student safety and well-being during transportation
• Effectively document nursing care and communicate health updates to appropriate personnel
• Collaborate with district health services, transportation staff, and parents to ensure seamless care

This contract position features split shifts approximately from 7:00-9:00 AM and 1:00-3:00 PM, providing predictable hours with a midday break. This role offers the chance to support a student’s success in a meaningful way.
