A fulfilling opportunity awaits for an on-site professional passionate about supporting the educational journey of students. This is a contract position encompassing the full 26/27 school year, offering the stability of full-time hours at 40 hours per week near Portsmouth, VA.
You will work collaboratively with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, including dedicated educational diagnosticians and social workers. Caseload assignment strives to accommodate your expertise and preferences, though you may serve two to three sites depending on student need. With a fully staffed team of experienced professionals, you’ll find plenty of support and resources as you make a meaningful difference.
Preferred Background and Qualifications:
- Valid School Psychologist certification/license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
- Experience administering cognitive assessments, behavioral rating scales, and conducting classroom observations
- Strong grasp of student evaluation processes, eligibility, and criteria interpretation
- Commitment to collaborative teamwork with ed diags, social workers, and other related service providers
- Familiarity with special education processes (child study, reevaluations, manifestation reviews)
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive student psychological evaluations
- Interpret and present evaluation results to school teams
- Guide staff and families through the eligibility process, utilizing worksheets and documentation accurately
- Attend and contribute to required meetings such as eligibility, reeval, and termination meetings
- Work in partnership with educational diagnosticians and related service providers during the achievement testing process
