Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of college (at least 72 semester credits in academic coursework), an Associate’s degree or higher, or a passing score on the Highly Qualified exam
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting for students in K-12 settings, preferably at the middle school level
- Proficiency in both voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpreting
- Comfortable working collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Flexible, responsible, and eager to adapt to various classroom settings
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, effective sign language interpretation for students in a middle school classroom setting
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities as well as special events and meetings as needed
- Facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and peers
- Collaborate with educators to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations for optimal learning
- Support student access to curriculum, extracurricular activities, and school events
- Maintain ongoing records of services provided and uphold ethical standards for educational interpreters
