This pivotal role focuses on facilitating communication and educational access for a 7th grade student who is completely deaf and experiences significant visual impairment. The assignment is based in a self-contained classroom, where you'll work closely with dedicated educators and specialists to empower your student to thrive.

This position offers a flexible weekly schedule, with options for either a traditional 5-day workweek or a condensed 2-day schedule (Tuesday and Wednesday), totaling 37.5 hours per week. As an American Sign Language Interpreter, you will foster a positive and supportive environment, delivering essential 1:1 assistance tailored to your student’s unique needs. Collaboration and enthusiasm are key, as you will be an active partner in creating an inclusive atmosphere alongside fellow teachers.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience working with students with hearing and vision impairments preferred
  • Outgoing, personable, and approachable demeanor
  • Reliable, flexible, and committed to student success
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, specialists, and support staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 ASL interpretation for a 7th grade student within the classroom setting
  • Adapt communication strategies for both deafness and visual impairment
  • Support educational goals and facilitate classroom participation
  • Collaborate closely with educational teams and follow individualized learning plans
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with students and staff
