Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Arlington Heights, Illinois

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Previous interpreting experience in schools or comparable environments highly preferred
• Valid certification or state licensure for educational interpreting (as required by Illinois)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to adapt language level to student needs
• Professionalism, dependability, and sensitivity to confidential information

Core Responsibilities:

• Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Facilitate classroom communication between students, teachers, and peers
• Support students throughout their school day, including academic, extracurricular, and other activities
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote an inclusive learning environment
• Uphold ethical standards for educational interpreting
• Maintain accurate records as required
