Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
  • Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter within school environments preferred
  • Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or equivalent strongly desired
  • Knowledge of educational terminology
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and support staff
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate interpretation between spoken English and ASL for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Support students in understanding instructional material and participating in classroom discussions
  • Facilitate communication during parent/teacher conferences, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular events as needed
  • Adapt to various learning environments and student abilities
  • Maintain impartiality, interpreting faithfully without personal input
  • Prepare for classes by reviewing lesson materials when possible
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute valuable input regarding accommodations
