Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language, with prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in school settings.
- A minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).
- Willingness to pursue and obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) interpreter licensure (support for the process will be provided).
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational terminology.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills with both students and staff.
- Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to fostering student engagement and independence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication into sign language – and vice versa – for all classroom activities, assignments, and peer interactions for one high school freshman.
- Facilitate clear, inclusive communication between the student, educators, and classmates, both in instructional and extracurricular settings.
- Assist with preparation and adaptation of instructional materials as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other professionals to support individualized student needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical guidelines at all times.
