This contract position, starting August 5th, focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 interpretation services for a high school freshman, ensuring equal access and communication within the educational environment.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language, with prior experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in school settings.
  • A minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).
  • Willingness to pursue and obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) interpreter licensure (support for the process will be provided).
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and educational terminology.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills with both students and staff.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to fostering student engagement and independence.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken communication into sign language – and vice versa – for all classroom activities, assignments, and peer interactions for one high school freshman.
  • Facilitate clear, inclusive communication between the student, educators, and classmates, both in instructional and extracurricular settings.
  • Assist with preparation and adaptation of instructional materials as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other professionals to support individualized student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical guidelines at all times.
