Make a meaningful impact supporting students who are Deaf or hard of hearing as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic school setting. Two full-time contract opportunities are currently available for the 2023-2024 academic year: one serving K-12 students across three schools, and another focused on K-4 students at a single school. You’ll work collaboratively with educators and support teams, helping foster an accessible and inclusive learning environment for all.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); able to interpret across educational and classroom settings
- Hold or be eligible for relevant state credentials or certification for educational interpreting
- Previous experience interpreting in K-12 schools is preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and reliability
- Ability to adapt language level and pacing to benefit younger students
- Comfortable working onsite in an educational environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, student questions, and peer interactions accurately and confidentially
- Support communication between students, faculty, and staff to promote classroom participation
- Prepare for classroom topics and activities to provide effective interpretation
- Collaborate with teachers and support teams to facilitate student access to curriculum
- Adjust interpreting techniques as needed for age, skill level, and individual student needs
- Maintain compliance with educational standards, confidentiality, and ethical interpreting practices
