Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Atmore, Alabama

An outstanding opportunity awaits qualified Sign Language Interpreters seeking a full-time contract role for the upcoming academic year. Serving schools in the Atmore, AL area, this onsite position will allow you to make a meaningful impact supporting students’ educational journeys through direct American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation.

There are two positions available:

• First Opening: Provide ASL support to K-12 students across three different schools.
• Second Opening: Focus exclusively on interpreting for K-4 students within a single school.

Your expertise will be essential to help bridge communication between students, educators, and staff, ensuring equitable access to the educational curriculum and school activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid certification or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
• Prior experience in an educational or school-based setting preferred
• Proficiency in American Sign Language, including diverse educational terminology
• Ability to interpret in real-time for various age groups and educational levels
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with teachers and school staff

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and timely ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, assemblies, and other school functions
• Support students’ comprehension and participation by facilitating communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers or instructors
• Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt materials and ensure full accessibility
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards at all times
• Participate in team meetings and ongoing professional development as required
