Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Atmore, Alabama

Bring your expertise in sign language interpreting and support students in their educational journey. We’re seeking two skilled professionals for full-time, onsite contract roles in nearby schools. These opportunities run for the 2023-2024 school year and involve working directly with students and educators to facilitate communication and ensure an accessible learning environment.

First opening: Serve K-12 students across three schools. Second opening: Focus on K-4 students within a single school.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings, especially K-12
• Familiarity with the role of a Teacher of American Sign Language is a plus
• Certification or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers and special education staff
• Strong communication skills and a passion for student development

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities
• Support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing curriculum content
• Clarify teachers’ communication and help students engage in peer interactions
• Facilitate understanding of directions, lectures, and group work
• Accurately maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics in all interactions
• Adapt to different classroom settings and grade levels as needed
